OUR MISSION
Abridged from the Timber in Construction Roadmap
This joint committee, through the Timber in Construction Roadmap, is seeking to increase the appropriate and safe use of timber in construction by tackling misconceptions, raising awareness of its benefits, and highlighting its role in reducing carbon emissions.
It aims to strengthen market confidence in sustainably sourced timber by aligning government policy, procurement standards, and industry initiatives. The committee also emphasizes the importance of safety, quality, and durability while supporting innovation, modern construction methods, and retrofit opportunities. By working with both government and industry, the roadmap sets out pilot projects, campaigns, and standards to demonstrate timber’s potential as a key material in achieving the UK’s net zero targets.

Continual outreach from the Promotion Working Group within the Timber in Construction Roadmap has meant that timber is higher on the radar of policy makers, design professionals, and the public.
Collectively, with campaigns like the STA’s Time for Timber, the Wood Awards, or TDUK’s many case studies and webinars, we are helping communicate and share the benefits of working with wood.
The announcement of the Timber in Construction Roadmap has helped timber enter the mainstream discussion – with strong coverage in publications ranging from the Telegraph, through to the Daily Mail, extolling both the benefits and challenges of building with wood. With this group we will be continuing to transform the understanding of timber in construction in the UK.
