ICF conference on Timber Supply Chain to take place in Newcastle
On 27 and 28 April 2016 the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) will hold its National Conference 2016 'The Timber Supply Chain: Dynamics and Opportunities' in Newcastle.
Remarkably, the event will focus on the whole timber supply chain, from species selection and tree improvement techniques to processing and market opportunities. Speakers include Matthew Rivers FICFor, Director of Biomass Business at Drax Power, Dr Peter Bonfield OBE, of the BRE Group and Formerly Grown in Britain, and Alfred W Kammerhofer, Head of the Timber Industry and Forest Management Section at the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment.
"Over the last 20 years, the UK forestry sector has invested heavily in new technology, processing capacity, and silvicultural knowledge and application. This exciting conference takes, for the first time, a holistic view across the whole supply chain from plant to product", explains Roger Coppock FICFor, Forestry Commission GB and Chair of the conference. “We will be exploring supply and demand issues, and challenging the way in which we grow, harvest and make use of and add value to our trees. Delegates will get an insight into new markets for wood and fibre, and how technology is opening up new prospects in the use of timber in construction."
“Forestry in the UK is sometimes described as a ‘hidden success story’. This conference provides an opportunity to broadcast its achievements in developing a thriving forest products industry, and to examine how best to build on this success”, adds David Henderson-Howat FICFor, President of the Institute of Chartered Foresters.
Early bird rates for the ICF National Conference 2016 end the 30th of January.
